Non-fiction
Hi, I just read a great post over on Marc Aronson's blog "Non-Fiction Matters" on the School Library Journal website.
He talks about reading non-fiction for pleasure, not just for writing reports, doing homework, etc. Though boys often enjoy non-fiction, many people do not think it's as fun to read as fiction. So Marc suggests librarians list the pleasures they get from non-fiction and put the list in the library and invite people to add their own.
I love non-fiction that is well-written because it is just as exciting as fiction. I get a thrill thinking, "wow" that really happened. And as Marc says in his follow-up today, learning about people in the past helps me understand more about myself. How about you?
What do you enjoy about reading non-fiction? Mary
